Have you ever read an article that made you stop and think, “Oh, crud. That’s me. I do that!”
I may or may not have done that when I first read this article: 20 Misused Words That Make Smart People Look Dumb, by Dr. Travis Bradberry. I’ll admit it, I have to Google when to use affect and effect.
In our industry, we are charged with defining and refining marketing messages – which means sometimes we write content. We take the time to analyze copy and determine where a comma needs placed, question if the right “there” used, etc. At times, there can be a great debate on spelling and sentence structure leaving us to consult our pal Google. Just because a word is spelled correctly, doesn’t mean it’s used properly (Peek, Peak, Pique).
This article is very helpful in explaining the circumstances in which to use commonly misused words. I hope you find it as helpful as we did. It’s definitely worthy of a share.
